Caykur Rizespor president Hasan Kartal has told Haberler that he is ‘very happy’ to see Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi linked with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Muriqi, 25, joined Rizespor from Genclerbirligi in January 2018, having only scored five goals in 46 games. His move was something of a punt by Rizespor, but boy did it pay off.

The 6ft 4in target man hit eight goals in his first 16 games, and then racked up 17 goals and eight assists last season as he became one of the most dangerous strikers in Turkish football.

Fenerbahce pounced to sign him this past summer, and he’s already shown his quality with two goals in four games, whilst he’s even impressed with Kosovo.

After scoring against the Czech Republic earlier this month, he then produced a goal and two assists against England – and his exploits are attracting interest.

The Express report that both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Muriqi, who cost Fenerbahce a bargain £3.1million just months ago.

Fenerbahce would surely demand a huge profit to sell him either in January or at the end of the season, and that would be ideal for Caykur Rizespor, whose president Kartal has responded after hearing the rumours.

Kartal has praised Muriqi, and whilst he hopes he succeeds and is remembered at Fenerbahce, he is ‘very happy’ to hear such big clubs want Muriqi because he put a 15% sell-on clause into the deal, meaning Rizespor can earn some more cash from the striker.

“When Vedat showed up at Rizespor, he was a great player,” said Kartal. “He came to us and he represented Rizespor in the best way. Now he’s sweating of the success of Fenerbahce. I believe that Vedat will be very successful.”

“The rumoured proposals and interest from Europe makes us very happy. If he goes from Fenerbahce, as mentioned, to another club in Europe, we will receive 15% of the fee. That makes us very happy, but my request is that his name is remembered at Fenerbahce,” he added.
