Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed on Twitter this morning that Arsenal have made a bid for Houssem Aouar.
Aulas has added that Arsenal’s offer for the 22-year-old midfielder is not enough, and has stated that he is counting on the youngster to have a great campaign and to lead the team to the Champions League next season.
Last night, ESPN claimed that the Gunners have put in an offer of €35 million (£31.94 million) for the youngster.
Aulas wrote on Twitter, as translated from French by Get French Football News: “There will be very few departures, Arsenal are way too far away from his value: we are counting on him to have a great match vs Lorient & to lead Lyon into the Champions League next year.”
Arsenal need to increase their bid
Lyon are a big club, but over the years, they have sold their best players, such as Karim Benzema, Miralem Pjanic, Hugo Lloris and Alexandre Lacazette.
If Arsenal want to sign the 22-year-old, then they will have to increase their offer, as it is clear that €35 million (£31.94 million) is not enough.
While it may seem a lot for a 22-year-old, especially amid the current economic climate, Aouar could be a good investment for Arsenal in the long run, and given his vast experience of first-team football, he would make an immediate impact at the North London club.
