Newcastle United’s takeover saga has been going on for some time now. It looked certain to go through without any hiccups at one point, but there seems to be something that is holding up the deal.
The wait really is annoying for Newcastle fans who want some sort of clarity about the situation around their club. Further delay could potentially hamper the Magpies’ plans for this summer’s transfer window as well which really is a big concern.
Nobody from the club has come out with any new statements regarding the takeover. Premier League’s CEO Richard Masters answered questions from MPs about the takeover this morning at the Department of Culture and Sport, but sadly, there wasn’t a lot he could disclose.
He said as quoted by The Mirror: “I appreciate the uncertainty. I cannot comment in terms of timing of the specifics on any takeover. In a perfect world takeovers would happen cleanly, clearly and in a timely fashion. Sometimes things get complicated.”
“It is an entirely confidential process which involves all sorts of due diligence and the application of the owners and directors tests. We have always said those processes are confidential and when they drag on there is a requirement for information. It is a relatively rare occurrence.”
“It is difficult to keep a constant dialogue with fans on what is an entirely confidential process. It is difficult to make any comment on something that is confidential. We can’t provide a running commentary on things. I can’t talk about the specifics,” Masters said earlier today.

Could the takeover fall through completely?
It does look like there will not be a conclusion any time soon. The Premier League are taking their time to complete all the required formalities, and it might well not finish before the end of this Premier League season.
Newcastle United fans, as irritating as it is, have no choice but to wait. If the deal does go through, the Magpies will be in strong hands looking ahead which really is exciting for every supporter out there.
However, the longer this drags on, the excitement levels will drop and people will fear for the worse after months of hopes and dreams about their club getting back among the top teams of the league again.
Newcastle supporters just have to pray for a positive outcome when all the dust clears. Another season under Mike Ashley will certainly anger the fans but it does seem like a very real possibility at the moment.
