Leicester City’s Christian Fuchs has sent a message to Luke Ayling on Twitter following the Foxes’ 4-1 win over Leeds on Monday.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men were torn apart at Elland Road by Brendan Rodgers’ side, as Jamie Vardy, Harvey Barnes and Youri Tielemans all got on the scoresheet.
However, one second-half incident nearly handed Leeds an equaliser.
Fuchs lunged in on Ayling inside the box with the score nicely poised at 2-1, but withdrew his challenge before any contact was made.
Seeking an opportunity to level the scores, the Leeds No.2 took a dive in an attempt to win his side a penalty.
However, Andre Marriner saw right through it and awarded a goal-kick instead of a spot-kick.
While some players might’ve been angry about an opponent diving, Fuchs instead praised Ayling for owning up to his wrongdoing, before thanking him for a good game.
The Austrian wrote: ‘In all fairness @lukeayling_8 excused himself right after the penalty incident and after the game for his dive. If I went all the way in it would have been a penalty for sure. Thanks for the great game Luke!’
It’s very rare to see a player discuss a dive after the game, let alone talk about it in such mature fashion.
Fair play to Fuchs for addressing the situation.
His tweet enabled Ayling to come out of the incident in a good light, having admitted that the £8,000-a-week (Spotrac) Leeds man owned up to his mistake both during the game and after it too.
