Rangers have been linked with a move for winger Jamie Murphy.
Brighton and Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton has told The Argus that he has no intention of letting winger Jamie Murphy leave the club amid links to Rangers.
The Seagulls are struggling for goals right now, having scored just once in their last six Premier League games, with manager Hughton now preparing to try and beef up his attack.
The Daily Mail report that Celtic striker Moussa Dembele is an £18million target for Brighton, but one attacking player being linked with a move to Scotland is wide man Jamie Murphy.
The Scottish Sun reported just days ago that Rangers were lining up a £1.2million bid to sign Brighton winger Murphy, given his lack of playing time this season.
Murphy, 28, hit 10 goals in 79 games for Brighton in the Championship, but has made just four Premier League appearances, with just one start to his name as he has become lost in the shuffle.
As a boyhood Rangers fan, Murphy may have jumped at the chance to join the Ibrox club, but it seems that the Gers will struggle to secure his signature.
Speaking after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Burnley, Brighton boss Chris Hughton has told The Argus that he isn’t currently looking to let Murphy leave, despite his lack of opportunities.
Hughton added that Murphy could be back in his plans with one injury to another winger, suggesting that he has merely been unfortunate so far this season.
“No,” said Hughton when asked if a deal was possible. “At this moment, if I am looking at the options I have in the wide areas, it’s been unfortunate for Jamie. Because of what we’ve had and no injuries in that area. He is still very much part of our plans. It only takes a lack of form, an injury or a couple of injuries and then he is very much back in the squad,” he added.
