David Moyes has completely backed Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta for his handling of the Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang situation.
Arteta made a big call for last week’s visit of Tottenham Hotspur by benching arguably his most important player.
The Arsenal captain reportedly turned up late before the game and the Spaniard axed him from the first XI – and didn’t sub him on.
The Gunners went on to win the game 2-1 in spite of missing their talisman.
And West Ham boss Moyes, who coached Arteta at Everton once upon a time, has praised his former midfielder.
Moyes, who comes up against Arsenal on Sunday, told The Standard: “So in the football club it is even more important, because we have to make sure we keep control of a lot of players with big egos, big personalities.
“He made the right decision Mikel, didn’t he, and always it will be the results which judge your decisions. Whether he had won or lost, it was the right decision.”
This is what separates Arteta from Arsene Wenger, for example.
The 38-year-old is a much sterner figure than his legendary former boss and if his treatment of Mesut Ozil didn’t prove that, then benching a player like Aubameyang for a North London derby certainly proved that he isn’t one to be trifled with.
