Julen Lopetegui has left Wolverhampton Wanderers just couple of months since he was on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed the exit of manager Julen Lopetegui after less than a year in charge.
The Premier League season hasn’t even kicked off yet but we now have a managerial departure.
After days of rumours, Wolves have now announced that Lopetegui has left the club with an agreement to terminate his contract reached.
Six coaches are leaving alongside Lopetegui with his nine-month spell at Molineux coming to an end.
The Spaniard made noises at the end of last season suggesting that he wasn’t entirely sure about his future.
Wolves have been very quiet in the transfer window, only managing to sign free agents Tom King and Matt Doherty.
Add in that the likes of Nathan Collins, Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez have gone and Wolves look to be in a mess.
Gary O’Neil seems to be the top choice to replace Lopetegui but this is far from ideal just days before the new Premier League season.

Julen Lopetegui was on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar
Lopetegui kept Wolves in the Premier League last season but is now leaving the club in what feels like a huge blow.
The former Real Madrid boss impressed in the Molineux dugout and that actually resulted in other interest in the summer.
90Min reported in June that Tottenham were on alert having heard of Lopetegui’s unhappiness at Wolves.

Spurs have been long-term admirers of Lopetegui and allegedly wanted him back in 2021, so their interest this summer made some sense.
Tottenham ended up going for Ange Postecoglou though, who seemed like a better fit for the kind of football Spurs want to play.
Lopetegui isn’t quite as adventurous with his approach and few Spurs fans would swap Postecoglou for Lopetegui now.
Maybe other Premier League clubs will have one eye on Lopetegui though, even if the way his Wolves exit has played out has been far from ideal.
