Brendan Rodgers has teased that Youri Tielemans could stay at Leicester City despite the midfielder’s current contract situation and reported interest from Arsenal.

Speaking to the press via Goal, the Premier League manager hinted that the Belgian international might remain at the King Power Stadium, with Rodgers stating that the club will do everything possible to convince Tielemans to stay with Leicester.

The 25-year-old’s contract with the Foxes is due to expire in the summer, with Tielemans now currently free to talk to other clubs about signing for them for free, with Arsenal being heavily linked with the former AS Monaco superstar.

The Mirror recently reported that Arsenal would make one final push to sign Tielemans with Mikel Arteta keen to bring in a central midfielder this month to bolster the Gunners’ Premier League title charge. However, activity has been minimal.

And as a result, Rodgers is now seemingly confident that Tielemans could stay at Leicester, with the former Liverpool manager issuing an update that could inflict a massive blow for Arsenal in their hopes of signing the midfielder this month.

Rodgers said: “Until I’m told he’s not here, we work very well together. He’s a coach’s dream, with his professionalism and view of the game. Nothing changes for me in that aspect, we just continue to hopefully find a resolution to it and have him sign here. I think it’s one where we want to do everything we can to convince him to stay.”

Many Arsenal fans would agree that depth in central midfield is a must for the January transfer window, with Tielemans arguably the pick of the bunch in regards to what targets are available in this market. Which is why missing out on the Leicester star would be disastrous for Arteta.

After all, Tielemans has many qualities that would make the Belgian a smash hit at the Emirates Stadium, and with a deal now quite easy to complete given the midfielder’s contract situation, the 25-year-old now staying with Leicester would be a huge failure from the Gunners.
