Swansea City and Crystal Palace are among the frontrunners for Morton winger Jai Quitongo – but he’d look good in the blue of Rangers.
Morton manager Jim Duffy piled the praise on Jai Quitongo after the 20-year-old talisman secured a 1-0 win over Queen of the South with another stunning long-range strike on Saturday.
He is a ‘joy to watch’, Duffy told the Scottish Sun, and it appears Morton fans are not the only ones enjoying the winger’s scintillating performances right now.
However, you wonder if this is the sort of signing that Rangers should be looking at as Pedro Caixinha aims to reduce the gap between not only Celtic but Aberdeen too.
The Rangers manager promised to bring in domestic, homegrown talent before the summer transfer window but, in the end, only two of his signings had ever played in the Scottish Premiership before – Graham Dorrans and Aberdeen skipper Ryan Jack.
Scotland Under-21 international Quitongo, however, is not only one of the nation’s most exciting talents but he is a player with a big future ahead of him and a huge amount of potential.
Signing him on a free, or at a reduced rate in January, would be a clear indication that Rangers are keeping an eye on some of the most exciting domestic talents around after reported interests in the likes of Jamie Walker (below) and Chris Cadden came to nothing.
If Rangers are to lay the platform for a genuine title challenge in the coming years, it wouldn’t be the worst idea to take a leaf out of Celtic’s book and create a squad of young, hungry and homegrown talents.
Quitongo’s ability to make the difference with a flash of inspiration is just one of many reasons why Rangers should join the ever-growing queue for his signature.
