The ex-Chelsea star believes the Tottenham Hotspur players could be overawed against Real Madrid tonight.

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard had a word of warning for Spurs ahead of their Champions League group stage tie against Real Madrid tonight, suggesting that Mauricio Pochettino’s side are in for a rude awakening when they face off against the European champions, when writing a column for the Evening Standard.

Tottenham and Madrid are tied at the top of Group H on six points, after a pair of wins from their opening two games, and the winner of tonight’s match will be in a fantastic position to go on and top the group.

The Lilywhites have been in fine form of late, recording seven wins in their last eight outings in all competitions, although Los Blancos are on a good run of their own, with six victories coming in their last seven.

Lampard though, explained why Spurs will find it tough going in the Spanish capital tonight, when writing a column for the Evening Standard:

“They may not admit it, but the Tottenham players will be overawed when they walk out to face Real Madrid at the Bernabeu tonight. This young squad will have a similar feeling to the one I had with Chelsea when we faced Barcelona for the first time in 2005 and they had Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto’o in the side.”

One thing is for certain, if Tottenham are to take anything from tonight’s game, they will need the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Hugo Lloris to be at their absolute best.

Against a team of Madrid’s quality, however, even that might not be enough.
