West Bromwich Albion pair Chris Brunt and Darren Fletcher and Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney have made the top three.
The results from HITC Sport’s poll looking for the goal of the weekend in the Premier League are in, and it is players from West Brom and Manchester United that make up the top three.
3rd: Wayne Rooney (13%)
Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney’s goal for Manchester United only took third place in our poll, but will surely be remembered for considerably longer than any of its rival this week. The Englishman’s strike – which received more votes than Roberto Firmino’s half-volley in Liverpool’s defeat to Swansea and James Ward Prowse’s neat finish in Southampton’s emphatic win over Leicester – saw him become the Red Devils’ all-time leading goalscorer. The stunning free-kick earned Manchester United a point, but rightfully earned Rooney a spot in the record books.
2nd: Darren Fletcher (15%)
Rooney’s former teammate Darren Fletcher took second after collecting 15% of the vote. His smart volley in West Brom’s win over Sunderland helped the Baggies on their way to a 2-0 win, but it was not even the best goal in the game at the Hawthorns as he has been blown out of the water by his teammate.
1st: Chris Brunt (69%)
West Bromwich Albion’s Chris Brunt
The Northern Irishman’s stunning volley came six minutes after Fletcher had given West Brom the lead, and it arguably overshadowed just good a goal Fletcher’s was. Chris Brunt’s incredibly sweet strike took nearly 70% of the vote, and is a clear winner in this week’s poll.
