Tottenham Hotspur appear to have landed something of a discount in their move to sign Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest have finally receive confirmation of their points deduction.
After weeks of speculation, Forest have been slapped with a four-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
Forest will appeal the decision and attempt to claw some points back, which will be vital as they battle against relegation.
A key man at the centre of this whole saga is Tottenham Hotspur forward Brennan Johnson, who left Forest on transfer deadline day last summer…
Premier League documents show Brennan Johnson discount
Forest sold Johnson to help balance the books, but the Premier League think Forest should have sold him earlier to meet the profit and sustainability rules.
Documentation from the case has now revealed that Forest actually had dialogue with Atletico Madrid about a deal for Johnson.
Atletico are understood to have offered around €50million (£42.5million) for Johnson in June 2023, which was effectively rejected.
Forest countered with a demand of €65million (£55.5million) and they never heard from Atletico again.

Forest then rejected three offers – £32.5million, £35million and £40million – from Brentford despite knowing that they needed to sell Johnson before the window closed.
Finally, Forest struck a deal to sell Johnson to Tottenham for £47.5million, as per the Premier League’s documentation.
That is some £8million less than Forest had demanded from Atletico with Tottenham able to grind the price down with Forest under pressure to sell.
We are now really starting to see Johnson repay that huge transfer fee with the Welshman hitting three goals and two assists in his last seven games.
Johnson – hailed as ‘wonderful’ by Wales boss Rob Page – is still only 22 and should have a very bright future at Tottenham ahead of him.
Some will still debate whether Johnson was worth £47.5million but Tottenham will look at those Atletico negotiations and feel that they got a pretty good deal in the end.
