Kasper Schmeichel is reportedly eager to leave OGC Nice already after leaving Leicester City this summer to join the French club, with Newcastle United seemingly being snubbed by the Danish international.
According to L’Equipe, the 35-year-old goalkeeper is already considering an exit from the French Riviera side after failing to make much of an impact at the club since signing for Nice in the summer, with the Ligue 1 side beating the likes of Newcastle to Schmeichel’s signature.
TalkSport reported in the summer that Newcastle were keen to sign Schmeichel as competition for Nick Pope’s no. 1 position. However, it was Nice who won the race for the veteran goalkeeper as the 2016 Premier League champion seemingly snubbed a move to St. James Park.
Nice made some quite ambitious signing in the window with Schmeichel joining the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Nicolas Pepe and Ross Barkley. However, this season has gone horribly for Lucien Favre’s side, with the former Leicester star already losing his spot in the XI.

As a result, Schmeichel could now leave Nice just a few months after moving to the French club. And for the likes of Newcastle and Leicester, this surprising development will be a source of frustration for both Premier League sides given their circumstances.
The Magpies had to wait some time to land a new backup keeper. Whilst for Leicester, Schmeichel’s replacement, Danny Ward, has arguably been one of the worst players in the Premier League this season, with the Foxes stranded in the relegation zone after a dreadful start to the new season.
Schmeichel could leave Nice for Premier League return in January

Schmeichel’s season has mirrored that of Leicester’s, with both parties performing well below expectations and now patiently waiting until January to sort out their messes. And as a result, the Danish keeper could make a return to the Premier League in the coming months.
Indeed, Schmeichel deciding to leave Nice would be quite the decision given how recently the keeper moved to France. Yet with the veteran now not featuring for the club, a return to England could be a wise move from the 35-year-old in the latter years of his footballing career.
