Liverpool are big fans of Bruno Guimaraes but Premier League rivals Newcastle United are ‘not worried’ about speculation surrounding the Brazil international’s future at St James’ Park.
It would, perhaps, be a little premature to suggest that Bruno Guimaraes swapping Newcastle United for Liverpool would be a step backwards.
But while the 2022/23 campaign represented a major disappointment for Jurgen Klopp’s ageing side – a transitional period seemingly on the way at Anfield – Newcastle are a team on the up under Eddie Howe; Champions League football returning to Tyneside after two decades away.
And make no mistake, Guimaraes is certainly along for the ride.

The £33 million signing from Lyon has embraced the club and the culture; the manner of his celebration following a goal against Brighton last month highlighting the mutual adoration between player and supporters.
Bruno Guimaraes is staying at Newcastle United for the long haul
Goal reported a few days ago that Liverpool had ‘opened talks’ over a potential deal for Newcastle’s metronomic midfield maestro. If that is indeed the case, it’s hard to imagine the negotiations would have lasted for long; Howe slamming down the phone quicker than you can say ‘he’s not for sale, Jurgen’.
Newcastle, TEAMtalk say, are ‘not worried’ about the interest in their talismanic ‘number 39’. There remains confidence that Guimaraes will sign a new deal, potentially seeing his wages rise from £120,000 a week to £200,000 a week.
His current deal, meanwhile, runs until 2026.
It’s hard to imagine, meanwhile, that Liverpool’s enquiry was not made more in hope than expectation. Klopp and co are casting their net far and wide in pursuit of a midfielder to join Alexis Mac Allister on Anfield but have ran into obstacles in pursuit of Mason Mount, Jude Bellingham, Ryan Gravenberch, Moises Caicedo and Manuel Ugarte.
“He is a god up there (at Newcastle). And he won’t be going anywhere. No chance,” former Liverpool favourite Danny Murphy tells talkSPORT (26 April, 12pm).
“Super player. Super player. He has got that lovely balance of creativity, passing and skill with an appetite to work back, defend and spot danger. When you’ve got that balance, and you’re good at both, you become an elite footballer.”
