Newcastle United take on Brentford, Barnsley, Ipswich Town, Preston North End and Cardiff City in their next five matches.

Newcastle United were flying before the international break, and managed to win seven of their last nine Championship matches.

Rafael Benitez will be hoping that the international break has not halted his side’s momentum, and in this article we predict the result of the Magpies’ next five Championship fixtures.

Brentford (home) – 2-1 win

Brentford manager Dean Smith

Brentford have been one of the Championship’s surprise packages so far, and they look to have the potential to challenge for a play off spot this season.

However, Newcastle should have enough to overcome Dean Smith’s side in front of their own fans.

Barnsley (away) – 1-1 draw

Barnsley have made an impressive start to life in the Championship, and a trip to Oakwell could be a tough test for Newcastle.

Ipswich Town (home) – 2-0 win

Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy

Ipswich are a solid and organised unit, but Newcastle should be too strong for Mick McCarthy’s side.

Preston North End (away) – 2-0 win

Like Ipswich, Preston’s strength comes through their organisation, but the Magpies should have too much class here.

Cardiff City (home) 2-1 win

Cardiff will be a totally different side under Neil Warnock, and are likely to pose a threat to most teams in the Championship. However, Newcastle will feel confident of winning this one.
