Predicting how Crystal Palace will fare this season: will Pardew stay?

With so much uncertainty surrounding Crystal Palace in the last few months, many are wondering if they can find success this season.

Alan Pardew successfully guided Crystal Palace to the FA Cup Final last season, and yet just four months on the only question on fans’ minds is when will he get the sack. A poor start to the campaign has led to many calling for his head, despite the club spending more than £50 million in the transfer window.

Premier League

Survival was always going to be the key this season, and the addition of the likes of Christian Benteke and Andros Townsend will certainly help their cause. Despite this, the morale around Selhurst Park seems to be at an all-time low following poor results against the likes of Bournemouth and West Brom.

Pardew appears to be on borrowed time at the moment and if he eventually gets the boot, the club will hope it isn’t too late to salvage their season.

Prediction: 18th

F.A Cup

Putting too much focus on the cup may well be one of the big problems that stemmed from last season’s league collapse, and it could be a case of lather rinse repeat if the club wind up with a favourable draw in the first few rounds. They seem to thrive on the cup atmosphere and there’s no reason to suggest that won’t continue, dependent on the teams they face.

Whether or not they’ll reach the levels that they did last season remains to be seen, but the quarter-finals are certainly within reach given some of the players they have at their disposal.

Prediction: Quarter-finals

League Cup

After edging past Blackpool in the second round, the Eagles will come up against fellow Premier League side Southampton in the third. Whether or not the League Cup is considered an important competition for Palace is irrelevant, as on their day Southampton will fancy putting them to the sword.

Obviously the teams that both sides choose to put out on the day will play a factor, but it doesn’t seem like Pardew’s men will be making it past the Saints.

Prediction: Exit in next round
