Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United go head-to-head this weekend.
Tottenham Hotspur kick off their Premier League campaign with a trip to St. James’ Park to face Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs are yet to make any new signings but they have a great squad available to them and will be hoping to build on their previous campaign whatever happens between now and the end of August.
With Kyle Walker sold and Kieran Trippier side-lined due to injury, it would be no surprise to see the much-maligned Moussa Sissoko given a chance to impress on the right side of defence.
Tottenham are also without Heung-min Son, Danny Rose, Erik Lamela and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou but they can still put out a strong side capable of getting one over the Magpies.
While Son and Victor Wanyama have returned to training, neither is likely to be risked from the outset this weekend.
If Wanyama played in midfield, Dier could revert to right-back in place of Sissoko, but Pochettino will not risk the Kenyan unless he is convinced he is fully fit.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side finished last season in second place and while they will have to go some to replicate that, it is possible if they bring in one or two new players before the transfer window closes and if their key men stay injury free.
Both sides will be desperate to get off to a winning start and Newcastle’s home support will act as the usual twelfth man so anything could happen over the proceeding 90 minutes.
Rafa Benitez’s side will be buzzing after their return to the top flight and they will want to make a statement early on to ensure their previous top-flight struggles are well and truly behind them.
