Tottenham have a difficult match against Everton to contend with this weekend as they look to stay in the fight for a top four finish.
Spurs could only manage a draw against Hull City last weekend, which means they will be looking for an instant reaction and a big three points from this fixture against Roberto Martinez’ men.
Here’s the side head coach Tim Sherwood could go with.
GK – Hugo Lloris
The Frenchman has been one of Tottenham’s best and most consistent players this season. He’s always looking for ways to come out and remove the pressure from his back four.
RB – Kyle Walker
Walker can sometimes blow hot and cold. Spurs will be hoping he has a very good 90 minutes against the Toffees both defensively and when he gets forward.
CB – Michael Dawson
Dawson is the leader in the back four. He’s the player who needs to do the no nonsense jobs and take responsibility if Everton start to get on top.
CB – Jan Vertonghen
Vertonghen will be better for the game time he had against Hull. He should be sharper and looking to dominate this game against some very talented and quicker Everton attacking men.
LB – Danny Rose
Rose will have to stay solid defensively down the right, making the most of his pace to get forward and catch Everton napping.
RM – Aaron Lennon
Andros Townsend is back in first team training but whether he’ll start ahead of Lennon is debatable. Lennon needs to show his boss why he should be in the side ahead of Townsend.
CM – Paulinho
Paulinho is a key player in the Tottenham midfield because he offers a defensive option. He can drop off and protect the defence but also has an ability to push on when Spurs are in control.
CM – Christian Eriksen
Eriksen has been used consistently on the left by Sherwood but this is a match where he could bring him into the centre. The Dane can get on top of Everton and unlock them with some clever passes.
LM – Gylfi Sigurdsson
Spurs will lose no control out on the left if Sigurdsson starts. It’s a role he’s done consistently and he can come into the middle when Rose is forward, providing the width.
ST – Emmanuel Adebayor
Adebayor has turned his Tottenham career around under Sherwood and this is another chance for him to show his quality. He needs to try and pin back the Everton defence, creating space for others.
ST – Roberto Soldado
Soldado has been somewhat of an enigma ever since he came to the club. He’s an extremely talented striker but needs to focus hard on adding goals to his game and creating momentum for himself.
