Tottenham Hotspur head into the second leg of their Europa League tie against Dnipro looking to over turn a one goal deficit from the first match thanks to a penalty from transfer target Yevhen Konoplyanka.
Spurs head coach Tim Sherwood will be looking for a reaction from his side as they then went onto suffer defeat away at Norwich City in the Premier League, which means it’s now very important for Tottenham to break the run of defeats.
Here’s the side Sherwood could go with this week.
GK – Brad Friedel
Friedel is an experienced alternative to Hugo Lloris and someone who knows the Europa League well.
RB – Kyle Naughton
Naughton will continue on the right side of defence if Kyle Walker hasn’t recovered from a hip problem in time for the game.
CB – Younes Kaboul
Kaboul could return if he’s shaken off the calf problem which prevented him from playing against Norwich. He was left in London for the first leg of this tie last week.
CB – Jan Vertonghen
Vertonghen should slot in on the left hand side of central defence. He’s just made some big claims about his ambition to play in the Champions League so he needs to show that the Europa League is a breeze for him.
LB – Danny Rose
Rose’s pace down the left is going to be a key asset on the counter attack. Defensively he needs to stay tight and tuck in next to the centre back when Spurs are under pressure.
RM – Andros Townsend
Townsend was superb in this position over the first half of the season and he should get a start. He’s dangerous when he’s allowed to cut inside onto his stronger left foot.
CM – Paulinho
More than capable of playing a holding role in Tottenham’s midfield and then covering a position where he’s needed.
CM – Mousa Dembele
Dembele injects that power and presence into the midfield. He can be aggressive and break up the play and also get into good advanced positions in the opponent’s final third.
AM – Christian Eriksen
Eriksen didn’t get off the bench against Norwich so he’ll be fresh and could feature from the start. His job will be to slot in behind the main striker.
LM – Nacer Chadli
Chadli has found opportunities hard to come by so far this season but this is another chance for him to prove his quality. He needs to control the left hand wing.
ST – Roberto Soldado
Arguably the most out of form player at Tottenham right now. He needs to get into good, basic positions and hunt a goal which could trigger a run of form.
