Could this possibly be the Tottenham Hotspur side for next season?
Mauricio Pochettino will have transfer targets in mind as he mulls over how to improve his Tottenham Hotspur team ahead of next season.
The Argentine has a couple of key areas to address in his current squad, as Spurs get ready for another assault on the top four next season.
It will be interesting to see where the boss spends his cash and what sort of team Tottenham have at the start of next season. We’ve had a go at attempting to name it.
GK – Hugo Lloris
The Frenchman is one player sure of his place in the Tottenham eleven. It would be a surprise if he left.
RB – Kyle Walker
Pochettino is likely to recognise that Walker could feel as though he has a point to prove after missing out on the World Cup. The boss could play on that.
CB – John O’Shea
Recent reports have suggested Tottenham are considering a small bid for the Sunderland centre-back. It would be a strange move but they’d lose nothing in terms of experience through signing him.
CB – Jan Vertonghen
Vertonghen has been playing out of position for Belgium at the World Cup. He made big noise last season about not wanting to plat at left-back so expect to see him slot in on the left hand side of central defence.
LB – Marcos Rojo
Rojo is one of the many left-backs currently doing the rounds in the transfer rumour mill. Spurs could be biding their team before making a move and like Pochettino, he’s an Argentine.
RM – Aaron Lennon
Lennon is one of the quickest players in the Premier League. Pochettino likes pace in all areas of his team so he stands a good chance of keeping his starting place.
CM – Paulinho
The Brazilian midfielder is one of the best technical players that Tottenham have. He lost his place under Tim Sherwood but responded well and has featured at the World Cup for Brazil.
CM – Mousa Dembele
Dembele is a very strong and physical midfielder, difficult to get to grips with when he gets going. He could be a solid player for Pochettino.
AM – Ricky Alvarez
The Inter Milan midfielder represents decent value for the club at around the £8 million mark and the natural Argentinian connection between player and coach is something Pochettino could prey on.
LM – Christian Eriksen
Eriksen was started on the left several times last season. He won’t always stay there, moving into central positions when he gets the chance and when Spurs are on top.
ST – Romelu Lukaku
The latest reports suggest Spurs may have to offload players to fund a deal for Lukaku but it would be a very good signing.
