Here’s Tottenham’s possible side for next season based on current players and potential signings.
Tottenham Hotspur are one of the few clubs yet to move in the transfer market ahead of the Premier League season.
Mauricio Pochettino appears to have been assessing his squad before going after players to sign this summer, as Spurs aim to break into the Champions League for the 2015/2016 campaign.
Here’s the potential side that could start the season for Tottenham.
GK – Hugo Lloris
One of the first names on the team sheet. A proactive goalkeeper, always looking for ways to ease the pressure on his defence.
RB – Kyle Walker
Walker had an inconsistent season last time round due partly to injury. He’s still one of the best full-backs Tottenham have.
CB – Younes Kaboul
If Kaboul can stay fit, he can become one of the most important players at the club.
CB – Jan Vertonghen
Vertonghen is being linked with a move to Barcelona but it’s important Pochettino keeps him because he’s a versatile and solid player.
LB – Ben Davies
Pochettino appears to have seen something in Davies, which he thinks is worth fighting for. Spurs still stand a good chance of doing a deal.
RM – Aaron Lennon
Lennon has always had plenty of pace and he should look to use that to his advantage on the counter attack.
DM – Sandro
Sandro fell out of favour with former boss Tim Sherwood but he could come back into the team. He’s a great player to have offering the back four extra protection.
CM – Paulinho
Paulinho also lost his place under Sherwood and will return from the World Cup with a point to prove after some of the host’s later displays in the tournament.
AM – Christian Eriksen
Eriksen is at his best when he plays in a central role and can get on the ball, before turning to attack the defence.
LM – Antoine Griezmann
Signing the Frenchman ahead of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool would be a real coup for the club. It would be harsh on Andros Townsend but a move which could also make him a better player.
ST – Emmanuel Adebayor
Adebayor showed what he could do for Tottenham given a chance last season. He could be the player Pochettino builds his attack around.
