Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly been working very hard in the transfer market to attract key players to the club.
The Argentine has wasted no time getting down to business as he looks to improve the team ahead of an assault on the top four next season, with the main aim being Champions League football.
Here’s what Tottenham’s team could look like at the start of next season.
GK – Hugo Lloris
Lloris is one of Tottenham’s players regularly linked with moves away from White Hart Lane. He’ll be key to the back of the team.
RB – Kyle Walker
Walker would be at the World Cup were he not injured for the last part of last season. He’ll be better off for the rest and should start.
CB – Michael Dawson
Dawson will be a key and experienced figure in the Tottenham back four. He’s not at his peak but is still a decent Premier League defender.
CB – Jan Vertonghen
If Vertonghen is still at the club by the start of next season then he’ll be in the side. However, he’s made it clear he’s looking for Champions League football.
LB – Ashley Cole
Spurs are one of the sides reportedly very interested in singing the former Chelsea player. His experience will be key and he should provide natural balance to the defence.
RM – Aaron Lennon
Pace to burn although Pochettino may be worried about his end product. Provides natural width and is a decent option on the counter attack.
CM – Paulinho
Paulinho could be vital for Pochettino in central midfield. He can control the pace and flow of any game and connects various areas of the team well.
CM – Mousa Dembele
A player who can interchange well with Paulinho and someone who provides a real presence in the middle of the team physically.
AM – Ricardo Alvarez
A potential £8 million signing Spurs are looking at from Inter Milan. If he comes in then he’d slot into the team behind the main striker.
LM – Christian Eriksen
Eriksen was Tottenham’s best signing last summer. He often started on the left but drifts in centrally, which places pressure on the left-back to get forward.
ST – Emmanuel Adebayor
Adebayor could be the man who Pochettino builds his attack around. He thrived last season when he was shown a leap of faith by Tim Sherwood.
