Match to be played on Saturday 13th September 2014 at 15:00. Venue: Stamford Bridge, London.
Swansea will head into this weekend’s visit to Stamford Bridge full of confidence as the only side to have matched Chelsea’s perfect start to the season.
The Swans will be considered the underdogs for the game but they can take a lot of heart from the way they played against Manchester United on the opening day of the season.
Here’s the side Garry Monk could opt for.
GK – Lukasz Fabianski
The former Arsenal goalkeeper has been in good form this season and can be trusted in pressure situations.
RB – Angel Rangel
An experienced performer and someone who can be productive for the side at either end of the pitch.
CB – Jordi Amat
One of the most talented defenders at the club. He’s looked settled this season and is making the right decisions at key times.
CB – Ashley Williams
Williams injects that experience into the side, which is vital in any big game such as this one.
LB – Neil Taylor
A good, quick option to have on the left hand side. He’ll be itching to get forward but mustn’t risk the integrity of the defence.
RM – Nathan Dyer
Has been in great form already this season down the right. He can hurt Chelsea on the counter if they give him the space to do so.
CM – Ki
Played extremely well against United and will be hoping for a repeat performance.
CM – Jonjo Shelvey
Shelvey will provide that aggression and a bit of grit into the middle of the team. He’ll look to make it uncomfortable for Chelsea’s creative players.
CM – Gylfi Sigurdsson
Sigurdsson is a versatile player who can get forward or drift wide if required to do so.
LM – Wayne Routledge
Another great player for the Swans to have out wide. If Chelsea allow him to get at Branislav Ivanovic, the difference in pace could tell.
ST – Wilfried Bony
If Swansea can create chances for him, he’ll put one of them away and that’s all it could take for the side to snatch something from this game.
