Sheffield Wednesday host the relegation-threatened side at Hillsborough on Saturday.
With their safety secured, Sheffield Wednesday’s only task now is to finish the season as strongly as possible.
And, given that one of their three remaining fixtures is away to champions-elect Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Owls will know that winning the two either side of it at home – starting against Reading on Saturday – provides their best chance of a satisfying climax.
Unlike Wednesday, last season’s play-off finalists remain in a battle for survival, and still require four points to preserve their own Championship status.
And from a Reading perspective, their trip is scheduled around five weeks too late, with the Owls having won four of their last six matches and, unusually, able to welcome back a trio of players – important ones too – in defender Daniel Pudil and form strikers Atdhe Nuhiu and Lucas Joao.
That being said, all three may have to settle for a place on the bench after the team’s winning performance – and particularly that of two Jordans, Thorniley and Rhodes – at Hull last time out. While Rhodes has been struggling with a hamstring problem this week, it would be a shame for him to lose his place if passed fit, as he tires to gain some much needed momentum.
Should Wednesday boss Jos Lukukay revert back to a two man attack, it could force a rethink in behind them – Adam Reach moved to left wing back, perhaps, at the expense of George Boyd.
