This time, however, it is Wednesday who are resigned to a mid-table finish, as Wolves prepare for bigger and better things.
The Molineux side have already wrapped up the Championship title and like their opponents have little to play for, other than, perhaps, one last hurrah for the home fans.
Wednesday will no doubt be keen to spoil the party, at least, and potentially send a message to the rest of the division as they look to bounce back next season.
Jos Luhukay’s side have won five of their last seven matches, a run aided by the returns of key men Tom Lees, Barry Bannan and Fernando Forestieri – although they now have 10 ruled out after Jack Hunt’s knee injury against Reading last weekend.
With the Owls having secured their safety a fortnight ago, Luhukay handed opportunities to youngsters Cameron Dawson and Connor Kirby last time out, and has vowed to experiment further before the campaign is out.
However, Friday’s Under-23 fixture against Burnley – in which Wednesday need only a point to secure the league title – could take precedence when it comes to selecting additional academy players.
Dawson will continue in goal, while Liam Palmer should replace Hunt at right wing back, with Atdhe Nuhiu and Lucas Joao pushing for recalls up front.
