Keiren Westwood – the Irishman perhaps could have done better for Newcastle’s consolation on Saturday, but is almost certain to keep his place.
Jack Hunt, Tom Lees, Vincent Sasso, Daniel Pudil – Glenn Loovens went off at half-time against the Magpies, so Sasso could come in. Carvalhal has full-backs Liam Palmer and Morgan Fox available, but he’s perhaps more likely to use the pair away from home Monday.
Ross Wallace, David Jones, Barry Bannan, Adam Reach – Talisman Fernando Forestieri could return, but may be saved for another day with Reach hitting form. Wallace’s deliveries could be key against a well-drilled Cardiff side, so he should start ahead of Callum McManaman, with Jones and Bannan likely to keep their places.
Gary Hooper, Steven Fletcher – Hooper was Wednesday’s key man until his withdrawal last time out and should get another chance to build up his fitness, alongside the in-form Fletcher, although January recruits Sam Winnall and Jordan Rhodes lie in wait.
