Sheffield Wednesday travel to Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night in search of their first away win of the campaign.

Three days since their last outing and with promotion-chasing Brighton & Hove Albion their guests at Hillsborough on Saturday, Owls head coach Carlos Carvalhal will likely make use of his 30-man squad at Ewood Park.

In his pre-game press conference on Monday, the Portuguese hinted that some of his key players might begin the game on the bench, with a view to them having an impact in the second half and subsequently being fit for Brighton.

He did this with Fernando Forestieri and Ross Wallace against Bristol City a fortnight ago and, between them, the pair provided assists for all three of Wednesday’s goals that night. It would not come as a great surprise if they, and/or other first team regulars, are omitted at Blackburn.

Carvalhal has concerns over Tom Lees and Barry Bannan, both of whom headed straight down the tunnel when substituted during the win against Nottingham Forest, and are unlikely to be risked with ready-made replacements Glenn Loovens and Almen Abdi available.

Steven Fletcher is one player who could perhaps do with a rest, which would likely see Atdhe Nuhiu come into the side, having been praised for his Forest cameo by Carvalhal, and paired with either Forestieri or Gary Hooper.

Summer signing Will Buckley could replace Wallace, while Liam Palmer tends to start these sorts of fixtures. Auxiliary left-back Adam Reach could move into midfield if Daniel Pudil is passed fit, while David Jones is a good bet to start, although he too requires a late fitness test.
