Glasgow Rangers’ manager Mark Warburton may resist the temptation to alter his line-up for this clash with Partick Thistle.
Glasgow Rangers visit Partick Thistle’s Firhill Stadium this weekend for an important Scottish Premiership fixture.
It is an especially crucial fixture with Mark Warbuton’s side trailing league leaders Celtic by 11 points.
Whilst Brendan Rodgers’ Bhoys attend to Scottish League Cup duties against second-placed Aberdeen this weekend, Warburton will be hoping to narrow the gap at the top of the table in a thin attempt to re-launch a title bid.
However, catching Aberdeen may be a more realistic and attainable target for the Gers.
In the build up to the game, Warburton sees the return of defender Danny Wilson after injury – with forward Joe Dodoo also pushing for a start for a fixture that Rangers have not tasted defeat in since 1993.
Goalkeeper Wes Foderingham will continue as Rangers’ number 1, with backup Matt Gilks likely to remain on the bench. In front of Foderingham it is expected that Warburton will ignore the temptation to recall Wilson – as 38-year-old Clint Hill should retain his place in the starting XI.
It is anticipated that Rob Kiernan will partner Hill, with the full back roles given to James Tavernier on the right and captain Lee Wallace on the opposite side.
Midfield is likely to consist of the deeper lying Andy Halliday, scorer of 3 goals in 13 league games so far this season, behind the engine room duo of Jason Holt and Josh Windass. Both of the latter two are yet to tally a league goal this campaign.
In the forward positions for Rangers, we are expecting to see Joe Garner selected in the central role, with Michael O’Halloran and Kenny Miller supporting the former Preston North End goal-getter.
