Predicted Rangers XI v USG: Four changes, van Bronckhorst makes Morelos decision

Rangers take on arguably one of their most-important games of the 2022-23 campaign with a second-leg Champions League tie against Union Saint-Gilloise – in which they are trailing 2-0 from the first leg, and here is the predicted XI.

A shock result in Belgium last week will see Rangers forced to overcome a two-goal deficit against a side that finished second in the Belgian Jupiler League last season. Of course, the Ibrox atmopshere will play into Rangers hands.

While Rangers suffered a poor result in Belgium, they bounced back with an important win over Kilmarnock at Ibrox on Saturday. Antonio Colak got off the mark, while Alfredo Morelos also came off the bench to score his first of 22-23.

A win, goals for both of his strikers, and a first win in their first home game of the season. Now, van Bronckhorst will be hoping to replicate Saturday’s result at the very least. But he will have a few decisions to make before then.

John Souttar remains sidelined with an injury, while Ben Davies was an unused substitute against Kilmarnock. James Sands did well alongside Connor Goldson and the American is likely to retain his place. Left-back might see a change.

Predicted Rangers XI to take on Union Saint-Gilloise

£5.5million ace Ridvan Yilmaz got his first start on Saturday but van Bronckhorst is likely to choose experience with Borna Barisic. His crossing will help against what is likely to be a low defensive block on Tuesday night.

John Lundstram is a mainstay, but Glen Kamara was rested and he could come in for Steven Davis. Rabbi Matondo came off the bench to replace the inconsistent Scott Wright and got the assist for Morelos’ late strike.

Malik Tillman continues to shine, and he will surely play in the 10 role. Ryan Kent and Morelos will undergo late fitness tests but if Kent is even 70%, he has got to start. Colak got his first goal and is more likely to start.

So, Rangers could make four changes to the side that beat Kilmarnock. In come Barisic, Kamara, Matondo and Kent for Yilmaz, Davis, Wright and Tom Lawrence. Morelos, Lawrence and potentially Ryan Jack could come off the bench.
