Following last week’s 4-0 drubbing, Rangers have got to get some points on the board when they take on Napoli at Ibrox on Wednesday evening in the Champions League. Giovanni van Bronckhorst could make five changes to his side.

Rangers fans will know that they were drawn in an incredibly tough group against an ambitious Ajax side, Liverpool and Italian giants Napoli. If they are to stand any chance, they really need to be on the front foot in their home games.

The first of three comes on Wednesday night when they play host to Napoli. Having suffered two consecutive 4-0 defeats to Ajax and Celtic, van Bronckhorst has got to ring the changes – and he could make as many as five tonight.

One is certainly enforced. Jon McLaughlin has joined Tom Lawrence, Ianis Hagi and Filip Helander in being unavailable. So, Allan McGregor will play between the sticks – van Bronckhorst already confirming as much in his press conference.

Van Bronckhorst could make five changes to Rangers side

Alfredo Morelos has held talks with the Rangers boss. The £11m ace has only been used five times from the bench by the Gers gaffer this season. But van Bronckhorst told his press conference he is fitter, and in a better head space.

He also said that Morelos could start – and replace Antonio Colak who was a bystander against Celtic and Ajax. Scott Wright is hardly good enough to start in a game of this magnitude. Rabbi Matondo would give Rangers more edge.

James Sands and Borna Barisic were particularly poor against Ajax – and summer signings Ben Davies and Ridvan Yilmaz should be given a go. If Rangers are to take advantage of their home games, van Bronckhorst must be bold.

So, five potential changes to the side hammered by Ajax. Out go McLaughlin, Sands, Barisic, Wright and Colak and in come McGregor, Davies, Yilmaz, Matondo and Morelos. Whether or not van Bronckhorst is bold, remains to be seen.
