Rangers travel to Paisley for Saturday’s clash against St. Mirren

28th October 2018, Hampden Park, Glasgow, Scotland; Scottish League Cup football, semi final, Aberdeen versus Rangers; Rangers Manager Steven Gerrard watches on

It has been a difficult week for Steven Gerrard and Rangers. Pressure has been ramped up on the Liverpool legend after losing to Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup semi-final, before failing to beat Kilmarnock at home on Wednesday.

Failing at the first crack of silverware and going four points behind Old Firm rivals Celtic makes Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off against St. Mirren all the more important.

The Gers have not been particularly impressive on the road of late, finally winning for the first time away from Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership since February with their 4-1 victory over Hamilton.

Following their two latest disappointments, Gerrard is likely to make changes with Ovie Ejaria and Borna Barisic remaining doubts for the match after missing Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw.

The duo are not likely to be risked, while Graham Dorrans and Jamie Murphy remain sidelined. However, a first start could be in the offing for Eros Grezda, who has hardly been used since his £1.8million switch from NK Osijek.

The nine-time Albania international has managed just 83 minutes of football for Rangers, and desperately need game time and the chance to show Gerrard what he can do. Saturday poses the perfect opportunity.

Eros Grezda of Rangers shoots at goal during the UEFA Europa League Group G match between Rangers and Spartak Moscow at Ibrox Stadium on October 25, 2018 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

Jordan Rossiter is also fit and he could be given a chance in midfield to freshen things up, while Allan McGregor is likely to return between the sticks after Wes Foderingham was given the nod on Wednesday night.

Ryan Jack came on at half-time against Killie, and he is likely to return to the starting line-up. We predict four changes for Rangers then, with Jack, Rossiter, Grezda and McGregor coming in for Lassana Coulibaly, Andy Halliday, Daniel Candeias and Foderingham.
