Rangers have the chance to go to the top of the Scottish Premiership table on Sunday afternoon with Old Firm rivals Celtic playing in the Scottish League Cup final, but they must beat Hearts at Tynecastle to do so.

Knocked out at the semi-final round by Aberdeen, Rangers return to Premiership action while Celtic take on Derek McInnes’ side in the final of the Cup on Sunday afternoon.

Steven Gerrard’s side come into the game off the back of an excellent 0-0 draw against Villarreal at Ibrox, which saw the Gers play the majority of the match with 10 men after Daniel Candeias was sent off.

Allan McGregor produced save after save to keep his 11th clean sheet of the season in 25 outings, while Glenn Middleton had a goal disallowed. Focus, though, returns to the Scottish Premiership clash against Hearts.

Changes are expected to be made to keep players fresh, with just three days separating the Villarreal and Hearts matches. Manager Gerrard has confirmed Borna Barisic is available, and he is likely to replace Jon Flanagan.

Ryan Kent misses out again, while Jordan Rossiter is fit but he may have to settle for a place on the bench. Gareth McAuley is likely to replace Joe Worrall, while Ovie Ejaria may return and take over from Lassana Coulibaly.

Glenn Middleton impressed on Thursday but he may be rested for new signing Eros Grezda. Four changes in total, then, with McAuley, Barisic, Ejaria and Grezda coming in for Worrall, Flanagan, Coulibaly and Middleton.
