Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is expected to make a couple of changes to his side as they prepare to take on Spanish side Villarreal at Ibrox on Thursday night in a crucial Europa League clash.

Group G remains incredibly tight among the four teams, with Rangers sitting in third place on five points – level with second-placed Spartak Moscow. Villarreal top the group on six, while Rapid Vienna sit last on four.

With two games to play, three points against the Spanish side would push Rangers into a very healthy position in terms of qualifying for the knockout stage. A loss, though, may put an end to their chances.

Rangers come into the game in good spirits and with plenty of momentum, after beating Livingston 3-0 at Ibrox thanks to goals from Daniel Candeias, Scott Arfield and Alfredo Morelos.

The latter is expected to be recalled into the side in place of Kyle Lafferty to spearhead the Gers attack. The Colombian has scored 16 goals in 25 games, and he should start above Lafferty who struggled to impress from the off on Saturday.

Gareth McAuley impressed against Livi and he is expected to start alongside Connor Goldson, while teenager Glenn Middleton notched another assist on Saturday and he may continue to deputise with Ryan Kent injured.

But Andy Halliday, who played at left-back against Livi, may face being dropped to the bench with 25-year-old Jon Flanagan coming in. Gerrard will want his defence as solid as it can be, and starting Flanagan will give him that opportunity.

Two changes for Rangers, then, in Morelos replacing Lafferty and Flanagan replacing Halliday.
