Rangers duo Jimmy Nicholl and Jonatan Johansson are set to take charge of their first Rangers match as a management double act, following the sacking of Graeme Murty on Saturday against Kilmarnock.
Previous assistant manager Nicholl and first-team coach Johansson are expected to remain in the role until the end of the season when the Gers will appoint Murty’s successor. Talks with Steven Gerrard continue.
But focus most now switch from a turbulent couple of weeks to Saturday’s clash against in-form Kilmarnock, who have completely turned their season around under Steve Clarke.
So much so, that Killie found themselves in the top half of the table when it came to the split. Performances from the likes of Youssouf Mulumbu, Kris Boyd and Jordan Jones have made Killie a fearsome Scottish Premiership force.
Nicholl and Johansson will be without goalkeeper Wes Foderingham, and defenders Declan John and David Bates for the clash, but could be set to welcome back long-term absentee Jordan Rossiter.
Captaining Billy Kirkwood’s Under-23 side of late, former Liverpool midfielder Rossiter was on the bench during the 5-0 loss to Celtic and with Murty gone, Nicholl and Johansson need to reignite a spark from somewhere.
Handing Rossiter a start could give the Gers just that, in what would be the 21-year-old’s first competitive outing since August where he came on as a late substitute in a 3-1 win over Ross County.
He should replace Jason Holt alongside Graham Dorrans in midfield, while Alfredo Morelos should be reinstated ahead of Jason Cummings to spearhead the Gers attack.
