Steven Gerrard has called on his wounded Rangers players to play through the pain barrier as the Gers go up against Old Firm rivals Celtic on Saturday afternoon – but he may be forced into making changes.

Connor Goldson limped off with a precautionary injury during Boxing Day’s 1-1 draw against Hibernian at Ibrox, while Scott Arfield, Ryan Kent and Gareth McAuley are all doubts to play. Graham Dorrans remains sidelined.

The Gers’ draw against Neil Lennon’s Hibs saw Celtic stretch their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to three points, while also boasting a game in hand over Gerrard’s men.

Goldson has been a leader at the back for Rangers this season and he will be desperate to play, but could partner Nikola Katic at centre-back with doubts still surrounding Nottingham Forest loanee Joe Worrall.

Borna Barisic remains out, meaning Andy Halliday is expected to continue on the left side of defence with doubts still surrounding the form of Jon Flanagan since he moved north of the border.

In midfield, Scott Arfield has missed the last two matches but he should be risked ahead of the winter break. He may replace Lassana Coulibaly, who continues to struggle in his bid to replicate the form he showed at the start of the season.

Alfredo Morelos scored his 20th goal of the season on Boxing Day and he will be looking to add to that tally – combining with wingers Daniel Candeias and Glenn Middleton. Two changes, Katic and Arfield in for Worrall and Coulibaly.
