Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United side’s brilliant display against Sheffield United has lifted the mood around St. James’ Park after the Premier League restart.
Newcastle were absolutely superb as they took apart the Blades and claimed a 3-0 victory at the weekend.
Bruce will surely be keen to keep momentum building and, as such, he is likely to want to keep the bulk of his team together on Wednesday evening.
With the games coming thick and fast Newcastle are due to take on Aston Villa tomorrow, and a familiar line-up can be expected.
Bruce may want to make a few tweaks though, just to ensure that his team stays fresh.
Newcastle’s win over Sheffield United has effectively confirmed their Premier League status for another year, and Bruce could be forgiven for having an eye on the FA Cup at the weekend.
The Magpies are due to take on Manchester City in the quarter-final of the competition, and that may just cause Bruce to make a couple of alterations.
DeAndre Yedlin must have a chance of starting over 26-year-old Javier Manquillo at right-back, while £8.5 million midfielder (Chronicle) Nabil Bentaleb could come in to replace Jonjo Shelvey in Newcastle’s midfield.
Predicted XI: Martin Dubravka; Danny Rose, Jamal Lascelles, Federico Fernandez, DeAndre Yedlin; Matt Ritchie, Nabil Bentaleb, Isaac Hayden, Allan Saint-Maximin; Miguel Almiron; Joelinton.
