Newcastle play host to Everton at St. James’ Park on Wednesday night.
Rafa Benitez could make three changes to his Newcastle United side as they play host to Sam Allardyce’s in-form Everton at St. James’ Park on Wednesday evening.
Benitez will be desperate to finally put a stop to a dismal run of form that has seen the Toon lose six times out of their last seven Premier League outings, the only other result being a draw against West Brom.
In contrast, Everton come into the game off the back of an unlikely point against Merseyside rivals Everton at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, following three straight wins against West Ham United, Huddersfield and Apollon Limassol.
Benitez combined strikers Joselu and Dwight Gayle during Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Leicester City, and both scored to give the Toon hope of ending their abysmal recent form that has seen the north east outfit drop into 16th place.
They should combine once again, leaving Aleksander Mitrovic on the substitutes bench, while Benitez will be buoyed by the return of previously injured duo Jamaal Lascelles and Christian Atsu.
Wales international Paul Dummett is likely to be the only player to miss out, as he continues to overcome a hamstring problem he suffered on the first day of the season against Tottenham Hotspur.
Isaac Hayden was guilty of a number of errors against Claude Puel’s Foxes and the 22-year-old could be dropped with England international Jonjo Shelvey waiting in the wings.
That would see Shelvey, Lascelles and Atsu come in for Hayden, Ciaran Clark and Jacob Murphy.
