Manchester United boss Ryan Giggs will be hoping his side can turn things around quickly after another disappointing defeat to Sunderland over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The Welshman could make a few changes to his side ahead of the summer, as speculation continues to roll on over his own role at Old Trafford and who the club may appoint as coach.
Here’s the side he could select this evening.
GK – David De Gea
The Spaniard is one of the only players who can enjoy safety in his position. He’ll be the first name down on the team sheet.
RB – Chris Smalling
Smalling has played at right-back several times already this season so he’s a decent option to have coming into the team.
CB – Phil Jones
Centre-back is Jones’ best position and he could replace Rio Ferdinand who is unlikely to play another game in such a short space of time after the weekend.
CB – Nemanja Vidic
This will be Vidic’s last home game as a Manchester United player. Giggs is likely to use the occasion to fire up the experienced defender.
LB – Patrice Evra
Evra should be safe at left-back. He gets forward and supports the midfield well but mustn’t forget his basic defensive duties in the back four.
RM – Antonio Valencia
Valencia will be fresh and he guarantees pace down his side of the pitch. The more pace the better for United on a big, open Old Trafford pitch.
CM – Michael Carrick
Carrick is one of the most consistent players in United’s team. He’ll control and protect the ball well.
CM – Darren Fletcher
Fletcher injects experience into the midfield but he needs to be quicker and more decisive with his passing if he’s given another chance to play.
AM – Juan Mata
Mata is arguably the most creative player in United’s midfield. The side needs to get him onto the ball as quickly as possible.
LM – Adnan Januzaj
With sixth place and Europa League football looking unlikely, Giggs may throw Januzaj into the side. He’s been superb at times this season and it’s confusing why he hasn’t played more.
ST – Javier Hernandez
The Mexican may just keep his place and be given a chance to show United why they would be wrong to sell him this summer.
