Match to be played on Sunday 9th February 2014 at 16:00. Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester.
Fulham are next up for Manchester United as they look to try and respond to another defeat last weekend against Stoke City.
United look done in terms of retaining their Premier League crown but a top four finish is still very important for the side and would be a good achievement for David Moyes if his players can pull it off.
Here’s the side Moyes could select to face Fulham this weekend.
GK – David De Gea
De Gea is one of the brightest goalkeeping talents in Europe. He’s got the United back four out of trouble frequently this season.
RB – Rafael
Rafael should return to the starting line-up at right back. He offers pace and a lot of aggression down his side of the defence which is important but he can’t be reckless.
CB – Chris Smalling
Phil Jones probably would have played but there is no point in United taking any risks after he was taken off with concussion against Stoke. Smalling is more than capable of stepping into central defence.
CB – Nemanja Vidic
Vidic is in line to return to the back four after a three match suspension for getting sent off against Chelsea. He should be fresh and it will be interesting to see how he plays considering the recent speculation over his future.
LB – Patrice Evra
Evra should slot in on the left of the defence. He can add a great deal at both ends of the pitch in terms of his experience and his intelligence.
RM – Antonio Valencia
This is the sort of game where Moyes can inject a rested Valencia into the side and tell him to cause chaos. He has the pace needed to really put Fulham’s defensive players onto the back foot.
CM – Michael Carrick
Carrick is one of the most consistent players in the United midfield. He plays to his strengths and does the roles he’s good at, trying to move possession on quickly to more creative players.
CM – Juan Mata
Mata started on the right against Stoke but should come back into the centre for this game. He’s far more effective from central positions and United’s right side was exposed at times against Stoke.
LM – Adnan Januzaj
Januzaj has played well on the left for United this season and he should return to the team. He can make a chance and score a goal out of nothing, which not many in the current United midfield are capable of.
ST – Wayne Rooney
Rooney should play at the top of the attack, dropping off into midfield if needed. United need a big performance from him in this game to give him confidence and momentum.
ST – Robin Van Persie
RVP’s job is to occupy both central defenders in the opposition back four. He’s more than capable of doing that role effectively, which should help to create more space for the likes of Rooney and Mata to exploit.
