Manchester United haven’t played since they lost the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich.

David Moyes’ side have had plenty of time to reflect following that result as they prepare to take on the Scot’s former employers Everton at Goodison Park, which also means a chance for Marouane Fellaini to play against his old team should he recover from a calf problem.

Here’s the side Moyes could select for the game.

GK – David De Gea

The Spaniard has been one of United’s most consistent players this season. He keeps his place between the sticks.

RB – Phil Jones

Rafael has been carrying a knock and hasn’t had much game time recently, which means Jones should keep his place at right-back.

CB – Chris Smalling

Moyes is in a similar position with Jonny Evans, close to a return but lacking match sharpness. Smalling is an able deputy.

CB – Nemanja Vidic

With Vidic leaving at the end of the season, Moyes needs to keep playing him for as long as possible because he’s the sort of character who will want to give his all in the final few games he’s a United man.

LB – Patrice Evra

Evra’s confidence will be high at the moment following his thunderbolt of a goal against Bayern Munich. However, he needs to stay tight defensively because Everton have players who can hurt him.

RM – Antonio Valencia

United are going to take a lot of pressure during this game, which makes it important for Moyes to ensure that the side has pace on the counter attack which can be provided by Antonio Valencia.

CM – Michael Carrick

Carrick controls the ball well and he’s one of the best in the business when it comes to reading the play in front of United’s back four.

CM – Darren Fletcher

Fletcher is one of the more experienced options Moyes could use in his midfield. It will be tempting to throw Fellaini straight back into the team but Fletcher is more than capable of holding his own in the middle.

CM – Juan Mata

The Spaniard hasn’t had a game for a couple of weeks so he’ll be fresh and should be itching to get some game time under his belt. He’s more than capable of pulling the strings in behind the main forward.

LM – Danny Welbeck

Welbeck’s pace and drive off the left hand side has been impressive in his last couple of appearances. He won’t always stay in that role, nudging forward to play centrally when he gets the chance.

ST – Javier Hernandez

Chicharito could find himself with a rare chance to lead the attack in the absence of Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie. He’ll want to prove he can be the main man.
