Match to be played this evening at 19:45 GMT. Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester.
Manchester United will be hoping to get their April off to a good start this evening when they take on reigning European champions Bayern Munich.
United go into the game off the back of a solid 4-1 win against Aston Villa last weekend, which will give them a little bit of confidence and belief that they can come through the two games against the German side on top.
Here’s the side David Moyes may go with for tonight’s game.
GK – David De Gea
The Spaniard has been one of United’s most consistent players this season and he should be one of the first names down on the team sheet.
RB – Phil Jones
Rafael missed training before this evening’s game which means he’s unlikely to play. Fortunately for United, they have a solid replacement.
CB – Rio Ferdinand
Ferdinand needs to use every bit of his experience this evening, as the threats from Bayern Munich come from all over the pitch.
CB – Nemanja Vidic
Vidic may be leaving at the end of the season but he can go out on a high with a dominant and impressive performance against a physical striker in the form of Mario Mandzukic.
LB – Alexander Buttner
With Patrice Evra suspended, Buttner will keep his place. It’s a chance for him to show Moyes that he has a big future at the club and can be a long term replacement for the Frenchman.
RM – Ashley Young
Young should keep his place out on the right hand side. He needs to work hard defensively with Jones and he needs to get forward with pace on the counter attack.
CM – Michael Carrick
Carrick needs to be at his absolute best this evening. United need him to cut off the angles, intercept the ball well and make it difficult for the Bayern midfield to function.
CM – Marouane Fellaini
The Belgian is much less subtle but will still be important. He needs to have a strong, physical presence in midfield and not allow Bayern much time on the ball.
CM – Ryan Giggs
With Juan Mata ineligible to play in this game, Moyes may start Giggs to offer some experience and quality in the middle.
LM – Danny Welbeck
Welbeck may be preferred to Adnan Januzaj because he offers a little extra protection on the left, with United losing nothing in terms of drive and ability to get forward.
ST – Wayne Rooney
The United front man needs a big performance. His side will be looking to him to take the smallest of half chances, which could make the difference after the second leg.
