Here’s the potential Manchester United side for next season based on current players and possible signings.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal couldn’t have hoped for a better start to his pre-season campaign.
United thumped LA Galaxy 7-0 in their first friendly and the club’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has reiterated the club’s financial strength in the transfer market.
We’ve attempted to name Manchester United’s team for the new season.
GK – David De Gea
De Gea is one of the only players who can look back on last season and hold his head up in relation to his performances.
RWB – Antonio Valencia
Valencia is good enough to play as both a right-back and a right winger. His pace will be crucial on the counter attack.
CB – Phil Jones
Jones is versatile enough to tuck in centrally and sweep out on the right when Valencia is out of position.
CB – Thomas Vermaelen
There’s still a good chance Vermaelen could join the club once Arsene Wenger signs a replacement.
CB – Jonny Evans
Evans has all the tools needed to be United’s standout defender next season. He has the ability to control the left hand side of defence.
LWB – Luke Shaw
United made a bold statement when they invested big in Shaw and LvG is likely to install him at left wing-back throughout the season.
DM – Daley Blind
Blind would be a great signing for United because he can protect the defence and also cover at left-back.
CM – Ander Herrera
Herrera was superb against LA Galaxy and looks similar to Paul Scholes in terms of his playing style.
AM – Juan Mata
Mata can control possession well at the top of the midfield in behind the main strikers.
CS – Wayne Rooney
Rooney will most likely be the striker who drifts around, drops off and generally goes to where he’s needed if the midfield is under pressure.
ST – Robin van Persie
RvP will play right at the very top of the attack looking to press the opposition defence back and create room for others.
