Here’s how Manchester United’s team could look ahead of next season.
Manchester United could be one of the busiest clubs in Europe after the World Cup as Louis van Gaal goes about concluding several transfer deals to transform the look and shape of his side.
It was always going to be difficult for United to get deals done before the tournament in Brazil starts next week, as they’re hampered by LvG’s current role with the Netherlands national side.
United have been linked with some very good players in the transfer market and we’ve taken a look at how the side could shape up next season.
GK – David De Gea
The Spaniard is one of the few players who can hold his head up high from last season. His consistency has never dropped.
RB – Daryl Janmaat
Janmaat is one of LvG’s Netherlands World Cup stars he could try and take to Old Trafford. It’ll be interesting to see how much competition there is for the Feyenoord star.
CB – Phil Jones
Jones deserves the chance to play in the heart of the defence. At times he can keep the best strikers in the world quiet but he has to remove the tendency to make mistakes.
CB – Mats Hummels
With Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic leaving the club, van Gaal needs to inject some experience and real quality into his back four. Dortmund’s Hummels could be just the man.
LB – Luke Shaw
United have reportedly had a deal in place for Shaw for some time. They are expected to shell out around £30 million to the Saints and make him one of the best paid teenagers in the world.
RM – Antonio Valencia
Valencia is one of the quickest players around so LvG is unlikely to axe him due to his ability on the counter attack. Expect the new boss to work hard with the Ecuadorian on his final ball.
CM – Bastian Schweinsteiger
The experienced German would inject some real grit and energy into United’s midfield, which was missing last season. He could relish the chance to influence the next generation of United players.
CM – Cesc Fabregas
Fabregas would be a world class signing for United if they managed to pull off a deal. Reports suggest they are favourites as Barcelona don’t consider them a rival.
AM – Juan Mata
Mata is well suited to play that role in behind the main striker. He’s one of the most creative players in the Premier League.
LM – Thomas Muller
Muller wants clarification over his future at Bayern Munich, with United circling should there be a sign that he’s available.
ST – Robin Van Persie
Wayne Rooney may be forced to fight his way into the team with RVP likely to start. He’s van Gaal’s captain with the Netherlands and could well be United’s captain next season.
