This could be the possible team when Louis van Gaal takes charge of his first Manchester United game.
Louis van Gaal’s current focus will be on his role with the Netherlands national side but he’ll also have one eye on his job at Manchester United.
Van Gaal has reportedly already commissioned several potential transfers for the Old Trafford club, as United fight to get back to the top of the Premier League and back into the Champions League.
Based on current players and potential signings, here’s the team United could start with next season.
GK – David De Gea
De Gea is United’s number one and no one will take that away from him. He was one of the only consistent players last season.
RB – Daryl Janmaat
Janmaat is one of several Dutch players United have been linked with signing. Harsh on Rafael but long term a potentially good deal.
CB – Phil Jones
Jones’ best position is on the right hand side of central defence. What he needs to work on is his consistency and removing errors from his game.
CB – Mats Hummels
We won’t know if there’s any real chance of United signing the Borussia Dortmund man until after the World Cup but he’d be a world class addition to the back four.
LB – Luke Shaw
The latest reports suggest that United have been able to blow Chelsea out of the water financially as they go after a deal. Shaw will be under huge pressure if he starts ahead of Patrice Evra.
RM – Antonio Valencia
Valencia may start in LvG’s team because of his pace. He’s one of the quickest players in the Premier League from a standing start, which makes him important in terms of the counter attack.
CM – Michael Carrick
Carrick is someone else who may keep his place because of his consistency and the control he offers in the middle of the team.
CM – Bastian Schweinsteiger
Reports suggest a £25 million offer is on the cards. The German would inject leadership and real authority into the middle of the team.
AM – Juan Mata
Mata is good enough to play that number ten role for United. LvG could urge his side to get him on the ball as quickly as possible.
LM – Wayne Rooney
We could see Rooney confined to a position on the left frequently. It will be interesting to see how he plays out there, resisting his urge to get involved centrally.
ST – Robin Van Persie
RVP is LvG’s skipper with the Netherlands and he’s likely to be his main man in United’s attack.
