Here is how we predict Manchester United will line up against Burton Albion:

United player Luke Shaw in action during the Premier League match between Sunderland and Manchester United at Stadium of Light on April 9, 2017 in Sunderland, England.

Manchester United kick off their defence of the EFL Cup with a home match against Burton Albion on Wednesday evening, and manager Jose Mourinho is expected to make plenty of changes.

United cannot call on Paul Pogba, Marcos Rojo or Axel Tuanzebe, but there could be a return for some familiar faces, with left-back Luke Shaw pushing for his first appearance of the season.

Michael Carrick of Manchester United trains during a training session ahead of the UEFA Super Cup final between Real Madrid and Manchester United on August 7, 2017 in Skopje, Macedonia.

Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera and Sergio Romero will also be hoping to start in what will be a much-changed but still strong line-up from the hosts.

Centre-backs Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling look set to replace first-choice pairing Phil Jones and Eric Bailly, while Jesse Lingard should get a chance to impress from the outset.

Young midfielder Scott McTominay – who impressed for United during pre-season – may get a run-out alongside skipper Carrick on Wednesday evening.

United certainly have the squad capable of dealing with all four competitions this season and, while it is not a priority, they will want to defend the trophy if they can do so without their participation affecting their league and European exploits.

With all that in mind here is how we expect United to line up against Burton later this week:
