Here’s the possible Manchester City side for the Community Shield game against Arsenal.
Manchester City will go into the Community Shield clash against Arsenal this weekend full of confidence having won the Premier League title last season.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side have been relatively quiet over the course of the summer transfer window so far, but they will still name a very strong eleven for the game, which will test the Gunners thoroughly.
Here’s the side they could go with for the game.
GK – Joe Hart
Hart is City’s number one, he’s got two Premier League winning medals to his name and Pellegrini will want to get him into some good early season form.
RB – Aleksandar Kolarov
Stronger over on the left hand side but with Pablo Zabaleta not fit, he will continue on the role he’s already played in pre-season.
CB – Dedryck Boyata
This will be a real test for Boyata who will be looking to make an impression and give himself a chance of featuring in the league this season.
CB – Karim Rekik
Rekik could be put in the same situation by Pellegrini. The 19-year-old will be thoroughly tested by Arsenal, but the boss may not want to risk another player before the start of the season.
LB – Gael Clichy
The former Arsenal man’s pace will be crucial on the counter attack over on the left. He has to stay solid defensively.
RM – James Milner
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Milner drafted in for this game given his defensive work rate and discipline. He can offer Kolarov extra protection.
CM – Yaya Toure
Say what you like about the way Toure handled himself earlier this summer, he’s one of the best central midfielders around and he starts when available.
CM – Fernando
One of the club’s new players could slit in alongside Toure. His job will be to control proceedings in the middle of the team.
LM – Samir Nasri
Nasri is arguably more effective through the middle, but he’ll likely start in a wide role, drifting into central positions when he can.
ST – Edin Dzeko
Speculation that Dzeko could leave City seems to have gone cold, which leaves him as one of the club’s main attacking threats.
ST – Stevan Jovetic
The Montenegrin striker has a great opportunity to put some pressure on Alvaro Negredo and Sergio Aguero before the start of the season.
