Brendan Rodgers will take his Liverpool side into a potential banana skin of a match against Crystal Palace this Monday hoping that his side can react from the defeat to Chelsea at Anfield last weekend.
Liverpool didn’t do an awful lot wrong against Jose Mourinho’s men and will go into this game looking to blow the London based side away and do some good work for their goal difference.
Here’s the side Rodgers may go with.
GK – Simon Mignolet
The Belgian has a huge incentive to play well over the rest of this season, as he should be aiming to become Belgium’s number one for the World Cup.
RB – Glen Johnson
Johnson is a very good player to have on the right hand side. Defensively he’ll be determined to sure things up and he provides good width going forward.
CB – Martin Skrtel
Skrtel will do the basics of defending well in this game. He won’t want any errors from now until the end of the season as the Reds look to secure the title.
CB – Daniel Agger
One change Rodgers may consider is bringing Agger back into the side ahead of Mamadou Sakho. Agger is a calm and composed player on the ball.
LB – Jon Flanagan
If Palace make the same mistake that other sides have made this season and try to target Flanagan then they’ll be disappointed. He’s turned into one of the best full-backs in the Premier League.
RM – Raheem Sterling
Sterling can provide that injection of pace on the counter attack. If Palace get too eager to attack, he will exploit the pockets which are left in behind.
CM – Lucas
Lucas will most likely play because he can roam the space in front of the back four and provide extra protection, getting forward when his side are on top.
CM – Steven Gerrard
Gerrard will play the role of the versatile middle man. He’ll drop off and push forward to apply pressure. His leadership will be tested if Palace grab an early goal.
AM – Philippe Coutinho
Coutinho is one of the best playmakers around at the moment. He’ll look to pick the Palace defence off, exploiting any weakness to try and create chances and get into good positions himself.
LM – Daniel Sturridge
Sturridge may start over on the left but he won’t stay there. He’ll get forward and support Luis Suarez when he gets the chance to do so.
ST – Luis Suarez
Suarez has been voted the PFA Player of the Year and it’s now time for him to show it all over again when his side really needs him to perform.
