Match to be played on Saturday 13th September 2014 at 17:30. Venue: Anfield, Liverpool.
Liverpool were one of the victims of the international break as striker Daniel Sturridge picked up a problem, which keeps him out of action for the next two to three weeks.
Fortunately for Reds fans, the club did great work over the summer to improve the playing squad considerably, which means they have good options in attack ahead of the game against Aston Villa.
We’ve named Liverpool’s possible starting side.
GK – Simon Mignolet
The Belgian is the club’s number one and continues to improve. He can be trusted in difficult situations.
RB – Javi Manquillo
It’s unlikely that Jon Flanagan will be thrown straight back into the team following injury, which means a chance for Manquillo to continue down the right.
CB – Dejan Lovren
Has been in the team ever since the start of the season and will be pleased with his current form.
CB – Mamadou Sakho
He played well against Tottenham in Liverpool’s last game and is good on the deck and in the air.
LB – Alberto Moreno
He’ll be full of confidence after a great game against Spurs. Seems to be getting more and more used to the pace and style of the English game.
RCM – Jordan Henderson
Henderson could play on the right hand side of a midfield diamond. He’s an extremely versatile player and can fill in anywhere.
LCM – Joe Allen
Allen should continue on the left hand side of the diamond, unless Rodgers wants to stretch the formation and bring in Lazar Markovic out wide.
CM – Steven Gerrard
Gerrard will most likely sit at the base of the diamond, pulling the strings and controlling the game in a manner he’s used to.
AM – Philippe Coutinho
Coutinho could slot into the role just behind the strikers. He had a decent international break after returning to the Brazil squad.
ST – Raheem Sterling
Rodgers could push Sterling further forward. He can drop off into midfield if Liverpool are under pressure but could enjoy a free licence to attack.
ST – Mario Balotelli
Balotelli should see this is a chance to prove why he’s the main man in Liverpool’s attack.
