Everton are enduring a terrible run of form, conceding 10 goals without reply in their last three matches in all competitions and slipping into the Premier League’s relegation zone despite spending vast sums of money over the summer.
For those reasons and more, the Toffees will be desperate to get a win under their belts in the EFL Cup third round clash against Sunderland on Wednesday evening.
Everton boss Ronald Koeman cannot call on Yannick Bolasie, Ross Barkley, Seamus Coleman or Ramiro Funes Mori, while James McCarthy is not yet ready to return from a knee injury.
He does however have plenty of players waiting in the wings to make their mark and it is time Koeman shook things up considerably having overlooked the likes of Ademola Lookman and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in recent weeks.
The duo can offer some much-needed pace to Everton’s attacks and summer signing Nikola Vlasic also deserves a run-out to show what he can do having previously impressed against the Toffees in the Europa League.
One player who has been overlooked time and again despite possessing the quality to become a future regular at Goodison Park is right-back Jonjoe Kenny and he should get his chance to impress against the Black Cats.
