Here’s the potential Chelsea side for next season based on current players including new signings.
Chelsea are in a great position ahead of the new Premier League season with Jose Mourinho having assembled one of the best squads of players in England’s top division.
Mourinho has balanced his side well during pre-season with higher profile first team stars playing alongside some of the club’s younger talents ahead of that first Premier League trip to Burnley.
Here’s the potential Chelsea side for the new season.
GK – Thibaut Courtois
Mourinho has echoed comments from Diego Simeone and described Courtois as the best goalkeeper in the world. He starts ahead of Petr Cech.
RB – Cesar Azpilicueta
The Spaniard should be allowed to revert to his more natural right-back slot. He was arguably the club’s most improved player last season.
CB – Gary Cahill
Cahill was part of the best defence in the league last season and he should continue his partnership alongside John Terry.
CB – John Terry
Terry is Chelsea’s skipper and he injects that experience and grit into the back four. Fortunately Cahill has the experience to cover.
LB – Filipe Luis
Luis provides balance to the back four and has been solid in the pre-season games he’s featured in so far.
RM – Willian
The Brazilian winger stands a good chance of starting down the right and he’ll benefit from having a season of English football behind him.
DM – Nemanja Matic
Matic will be a giant in front of the back four. He’s good enough to pick off opposition attacks easily.
CM – Cesc Fabregas
Fabregas will most likely pull the strings in the middle of the pitch. He can get forward when the Blues are on top.
AM – Oscar
Oscar showed a good attacking game during the World Cup, backed up by the defensive work rate Mourinho now demands from his players.
LM – Eden Hazard
The Belgian is one of the best attacking threats that Chelsea have. He’ll start on the left whenever he’s fit and available.
ST – Diego Costa
Costa is the main man in attack. He should be looking to press forward and create space for others to exploit.
